Perfect your bedtime hair routine
Whilst you might be meticulous about your hair during the day, many of us throw caution to the wind come bedtime. Whether you’re a fan of the pineapple – with or without scrunchie – the hundred strokes method or the wet n wild look, you’re probably overlooking at least one or two of the golden rules for protecting your hair at night.
Treat your hair as you would your skin
In the same way that you wouldn’t dream of getting into bed without performing your skincare ritual – cleanse, swipe, treat, repeat! – there are a few things you can be doing to make nights a restorative part of your hair care routine. After all, our bodies enter rejuvenation mode when we sleep.
Condition, hydrate and protect
Tossing and turning overnight causes your cuticles to get roughed up which can lead to dryness and breakage. As well as investing in a silk scarf or pillowcase to reduce any friction, try brushing your hair gently to get rid of any knots and apply a small dose of Kérastase Elixir Ultime Oil to your strands, focusing on the ends. Its ultra-nourishing formula helps to smooth the cuticle and provide long-lasting shine. Depending on how dry your hair is, you might only want to do this if you’re planning on washing your hair the next morning. Those with longer hair might want to braid their hair into a loose plait to prevent any flyaways.
If you’re going to be using heat styling in the morning, reach for the repairing Kérastase Sérum Thérapiste. Combining an oil base with a cream-textured top coat, it provides heat protection up to 230°C and instantly heals and seals ends for a sleek finish. Night night!
Artist Paul Edmonds' Top Tip:“For extra help in the fight against frizz apply the Kérastase Discipline Maskeratine before bed to freshly washed hair. After shampooing, apply to mid lengths and ends, twist the hair and wrap into a bun on top of the head. This helps to make it more comfortable whilst you sleep. In the morning, untwist, rinse, and blow dry as normal. The result? Your hair will look and feel smooth and sleek.”
